Gulf of Mexico Oil Platform
The Boomvang platfrorm, in the Gulf of Mexico, wanted to attach a monorail to the existing support steel. The engineers considered clamping the monorail to the existing steel with fabricated clamps. The engineers and LNA Solutions reviewed the connections and determined that the fabricated clamps were going to induce moment into the bolts. This would have required significantly larger bolts and larger holes drilled into the steel or a great number of additional bolts.
The engineers at LNA Solutions proposed using a four bolt Girder Clamp connection using 3/4" clamps. The Girder Clamp eliminated any drilling or welding on the existing steel, provided the required loads with a 5 to 1 factor of safety, fast installation with no special tools required, adjustability and no fire hazard.
